Sheet Metal

Intro / Overview

At MSMU, we believe successful training is an investment in your future. Our state-approved Apprenticeship Program uses the NCCER curriculum and provides training in HVACR Service, Sheet Metal, Plumbing, and Piping.

What You'll Learn

Safety & Fundamentals

Students learn essential safety practices to support a safe working environment throughout the program.

Principles of Airflow

Apprentices learn how airflow, pressure, velocity, and resistance impact HVAC system performance. Training includes understanding commercial airflow dynamics and system efficiency.

Field Measuring & Layout

Accurate measurements are critical for smooth installation. Apprentices learn field measuring, layout marking, and on-site adjustments using mechanical drawing and computer-aided techniques.

Ductwork Installation

Apprentices learn to install duct systems, including layout, assembly, and securing ductwork components. Training also includes air distribution accessories to improve airflow and system performance.

Training Structure

Classroom Sessions

Attend classes every other week. We provide the “mind” skills needed to master the “hand” skills of your craft.

On-the-Job Training

Work directly on job sites, applying skills in real-world scenarios and completing training hours through your sponsor.

Balanced Training

A blend of classroom instruction and field experience builds the technical and hands-on skills needed for long-term success.

Safety & Mission

Safety Statement

We are committed to creating a safe learning environment. Our goal is to provide an injury-free work environment where all facilities and projects are free from recognized hazards, ensuring the safety of people, equipment, and the environment.

Program Mission

Through hands-on training and industry-relevant education, our four-year program is designed to meet the evolving needs of the construction industry. Our mission is to equip apprentices with the skills and knowledge needed to become well-rounded, highly skilled journeymen in sheet metal, piping, and plumbing.

Why Join?

Sheet metal is a critical part of HVAC construction and commercial building performance. MSMU apprentices learn the real-world skills needed to fabricate and install duct systems that support efficient airflow and indoor comfort.

This trade is ideal for individuals who enjoy precision work, hands-on building, and working as part of a crew on large job sites. Apprentices gain experience in field layout, duct installation, airflow principles, and system performance. By graduation, apprentices are prepared for long-term career growth and journeyman licensing in the sheet metal trade.
