Apprenticeship Program

MSMU (Mechanical Systems Mini University)

At MSMU, we believe that investing in training is investing in the future of the skilled trades. Our specialized programs focus on HVAC/Sheet Metal, HVAC Service, and Piping/Plumbing system installation, repair, and maintenance. As an accredited State of Ohio Apprenticeship Program, MSMU proudly utilizes the NCCER curriculum.

As an apprentice, you’ll receive structured classroom instruction designed to build your trade knowledge — covering topics such as blueprint reading, safety, and trade-specific techniques. This classroom learning gives you the "head" skills that prepare you to master the "hand" skills in your craft.

It’s important to note that many aspects of your apprenticeship — including pay, on-the-job hours, overtime, and specific worksite experience — are determined by your sponsor (the company supporting your apprenticeship). MSMU provides classroom training; your sponsor provides your jobsite training and real-world application.

Our courses are developed by seasoned construction professionals, ensuring you gain the latest industry techniques, technology insights, and code compliance knowledge. Classroom training is held every other week at MSMU, giving apprentices a balance of education and fieldwork.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you get paid for attending class and working at the job site?

Compensation is determined by your apprenticeship sponsor. Many sponsors do pay apprentices for both classroom training and on-the-job work, but this is not guaranteed. Be sure to confirm the pay structure directly with your sponsor.

Are overtime hours available?

Overtime availability depends on your sponsor and project needs. If you are interested in working extra hours, let your Superintendent or sponsor representative know so they can guide you on opportunities.

Do you have to work weekends?

It depends. Weekend work is not typical, especially for 1st and 2nd year apprentices, but certain projects may require it. If weekend work comes up, your Superintendent or sponsor will let you know what’s expected.
