About Us

MSMU (Mechanical Systems Mini University)

At MSMU, we believe investing in training is investing in the future of skilled trades. Our specialized programs support apprentices in HVAC/Sheet Metal, HVACR Service, and Plumbing/Pipefitting installation, repair, and maintenance. MSMU is an accredited State of Ohio Apprenticeship Program and proudly uses the NCCER curriculum.

Apprentices receive structured classroom instruction designed to build trade knowledge and strengthen core skills such as blueprint reading, safety practices, and trade-specific techniques. This learning builds the “mind” skills needed to master the hands-on work of the trade.

MSMU provides classroom training, while apprentices complete jobsite training through their sponsor company. Pay, on-the-job hours, overtime, and jobsite experience are determined by the sponsor. This partnership ensures apprentices receive both technical education and real-world field experience.

Our courses are developed by experienced construction professionals to ensure apprentices learn current industry techniques, technology, and code compliance. Classroom training is held every other week at MSMU, allowing apprentices to balance education with fieldwork.

Sponsors

Apprentices complete their training through a partnership between MSMU and a sponsor company. MSMU provides structured classroom instruction, while the sponsor company provides paid, hands-on jobsite experience.

Many aspects of the apprenticeship, including pay, on-the-job hours, overtime, and daily work experience, are determined by the sponsor company.

If you do not currently have a sponsor, our team at MSMU can assist you in finding one. We work with contractors and employers who are committed to developing skilled talent through apprenticeship training.

Interested in becoming a sponsor? MSMU partners with companies who want to train and develop the next generation of skilled tradespeople. If your company is interested in sponsoring an apprentice, please contact us to learn more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you get paid for attending class and working at the job site?

Compensation is determined by your apprenticeship sponsor. Many sponsors do pay apprentices for both classroom training and on-the-job work, but this is not guaranteed. Be sure to confirm the pay structure directly with your sponsor.

Are overtime hours available?

Overtime availability depends on your sponsor and project needs. If you are interested in working extra hours, let your Superintendent or sponsor representative know so they can guide you on opportunities.

Do you have to work weekends?

It depends. Weekend work is not typical, especially for 1st and 2nd year apprentices, but certain projects may require it. If weekend work comes up, your Superintendent or sponsor will let you know what’s expected.
